FREE WORKSHOP!
TRIAL OF DANCES FOR RSCDS BOOK 55
SUNDAY 3 MAY 2026, 2:30 – 5:00 PM
Scout & Guide HQ, Bryn Rd., Swansea SA2 0AU
COME ALONG AND HAVE FUN TRYING OUT NEW DANCES AND RATING THEM. YOUR VOTE COUNTS!
As many of you know, the RSCDS produces a new book of dances approximately every two years. They usually invite devisors or sponsors to send in new or hitherto unpublished dances, and they often receive a couple of hundred entries. Batches of dances are then sent out to branches and dance groups to test them out and get feedback from dancers on the danceability and appeal of the allocated dances.
South Wales Branch have agreed to trial eleven dances for the next book, number 55, due to appear in 2027. We’ve set up an initial workshop to dance as many as we can, discuss good and bad points, and send feedback and votes back to HQ. Along with views from all over the world on all the batches, the results will be collated centrally and a small selection will get a rigorous further trial before being included in the book.
Please come along and have your say. It’s fascinating to analyse dances together, and to feel that we all have a say in the eventual choice of new dances that will be appearing on programmes from 2027.
ALL WELCOME!
It helps if you’re at least moderately experienced and can pick up instructions relatively quickly, but we’re also seeking a range of points of view.
TEA/COFFEE AND SHORTBREAD PROVIDED. PLEASE BRING A MUG.
FURTHER DETAILS: rscdssouthwales@gmail.com No charge, but please let us know as soon as possible if you intend to come. We need at least eight dancers in order to run this.
