South Wales Branch
Scottish country dancing in South Wales
We are a thriving RSCDS Branch with a membership widespread over South Wales. Formed in 1969, we provide information and events for all dancers and groups across the area.
Our members play an enthusiastic role dancing at and supporting their local clubs. We hold dances and workshops open to all dancers and promote dancing with our community outreach initiatives.
We are keen to attract younger dancers. Some of our social events are family occasions, and we encourage dancers to bring along children and non-dancing friends and relatives.
The RSCDS runs an annual Summer School in July/August in St Andrews in Scotland, where there are designated weeks of classes specifically for children and young people as well as classes for everyone from beginners to experienced dancers and from class musicians to players in dance bands.
We may look at running regular children’s classes in the future. For now, some classes can accommodate children – but it’s important to check it out with the teacher first. At present, at our social dances, we have dancers from six years old to almost ninety!
