The aim of this course is for dancers to build confidence in their knowledge of formations used in Scottish Country Dancing through phrasing, covering and teamwork. It will be a chance for us all to improve our dancing, not just to learn dances.

There will be the opportunity for improvement in technique of the steps and transitions between the steps required in the formations taught.

Some of the formations to be covered will be selected from the following:

  • Four hands across and back

  • Turn corners and partner

  • 4/6/8 hands round and back

  • Promenade

  • Reel of 3

  • Petronella

  • Reel of 4

  • Rondel

  • Double triangles

  • Figure of eight

  • Rights and lefts

  • Set and rotate

  • Pousette

  • Half Pousette (strathspey)

  • Grand Chain

  • The Knot

  • Ladies' and mens' chains

  • Reel of 4 across the set with progression

  • Allemande

  • Set to corners and partner

  • Advance and retire

  • The Tournee

Please note that this will be an event for dancers of mixed ability so figures and steps taught will be adjusted to suit the dancers attending.  This will be an active class, and dancers will need to be dancing for the full duration of the class with a short break for a hot drink in the middle.

In order to ensure continuing skills development, the course is offered as a set of 5 linked classes. It is possible that single classes may come available at short notice. Any dancers interested in single classes will be held on a waiting list and informed of availability near to the date of the class. Please let Jane know if you want to be included on this list.
